We made about 250 FISH PREAMP's between 1991 and 1993. By popular demand we decided to make a one time limited run of the original Fish preamp. These will be in stores by the end of 2008, there are no other plans for a new preamp design.

Features:

4 Channel all tube design with master volume and presence controls (back panel)
Eight 12AX7 preamp tubes.

Sound wise you can take a guess what Brown means, fat high gain.

Artists:
Like with all our amps, the “Fish” was used by a broad pallet of different artists through out all musical styles. Perhaps the most famous memory is that first “Alice in Chains” album, that opening opening riff…, Jerry Cantrell still uses the “Fish” today besides the Shiva and Uberschall. Heavy Rockers Anthrax, Megadeath, Slayer, Queensreich; Producers Mike Clink, Dave Jerden ; Country Nashville studio ace Brent Mason; Fusion - Jazzers Alan Holdsworth, Norman Brown, Larry Carlton all were on a  “seafood diet” with the “Fish” . Larry Carlton even named one of his songs “Bogner” on his 1991 release “Renegade Gentleman”.

FISH PREAMP TUBE LAYOUT

CHANNEL SWITCHING-

The FISH utilizes two 1/4" jacks for channel switching , you'll need two on/off latching switches to access the Four individual channels. Through different combinations of the footswitchs on/off buttons, you'll be able to access each channel. Some FISH preamps may have a multi-pin footswitch connector as well as the 1/4" jacks. This multi-pin connector was never activated and serves no functional use, also a matching footswitch was never made for the FISH.

CHANGING TUBES-

Most amp problems, ie: microphonic squeals, crackling, low power, mushy bass response etc... can be traced to bad or weak tubes. Remember, tubes are like car tires, they get worn out through use and need to be replaced. Sometimes they can go bad very quickly, just as a light bulb works great one day and it blows the next time you hit the power switch, it's unfortunate but a fact of tube life. How loud you play and how long you play for affects how often you need to re-tube your amp. If you play alot, changing the power tubes once a year is normal , pre-amp tubes can often last twice as long, even longer.
